So if most of the population owns a Mercedes Benz, but you own a brown 1979 Datsun Sunny – you are poor. Global definitions of poverty are also typically economic but are absolute measures.
@shiftslash - anytime.

@Ozy - Good comments - we can say that living in NZ means we have a smaller network -- but are there really such things as borders when it comes to the 'net? Or is it a cultural thing?

Social Networking as an entity will be just another phase and it will soon die to another idea. I believe places like FACEBOOK will be soon so flooded with advertising and junk that people wont want to visit it. This wont be a bad thing. Sure it will still operate but not at the level we see now.

You are right to question the value of these things. Does Twitter make my life better?? Doubt it.

One of the benefits of living in NZ is that we don't have the network and competition from providers to really use something like twitter to its capacity. Therefore we dont actually embrace the technology fully. Perhaps this is one of the reasons I like living in New Zealand.

Nice thoughts

Sadly you are correct about the news. One thing I hate is the 'live feed' from some young reporter who tells us nothing new or nothing we couldn't have worked out for ourselves.

The news and celebrity aspect is interesting in the light of Tiger Woods. Fun/Sad that the world can get so caught up in the events of a person they will never meet or see in person.
